NUSA PENIDA DIVE SITES

One of the best places in the world to spot the rare Mola Mola and the graceful Manta Ray.

DIVING IN NUSA PENIDA

Located southeast of Bali, Nusa Penida is an island that offers many gorgeous dive sites. Here you have the chance to dive with big pelagic like manta rays, sharks and even oceanic sunfish, also called Mola Mola.

MANTASTIC MANTA POINT

Located on the southern part of Nusa Penida, Manta Point is the furthest dive site from Bali Dive Resorts, but it is well worth the trip. This dive site has a cleaning station which provides a fantastic opportunity to spot many Manta Rays during your dive.

Manta Rays can be encountered year around in Nusa Penida and Manta Point. Plankton rich water surrounding the island, attracts many Manta Rays and other big fish. Manta Rays are beautiful, intelligent fish that are often curious. This might result in them coming down to have a closer look at you, spinning around and giving you the show of a lifetime. Keep your distance and enjoy!

Manta Point

Manta Point is another iconic dive site in Bali, located on the southern part of Nusa Penida. The cleaning station on this dive site is sitting under a few meters of water in a protected bay, where the mantas come to swim over the top of a huge boulder and allowing the little cleaner fishes to eat off the parasites that cover their bodies.

The water in this area is rich in plankton, which attracts mantas to come and feed. Depending on the season, the water temperature can be as warm as 29⁰C or as cold as 20⁰C. Since the bay is quite large and far from any port of embarkation, manta point can be exposed to swell which can make the journey and the dive a bit challenging sometimes.

Ped

Ped is a dive site located on the North side of Nusa Penida and it’s part of the kilometers long coast with a lot of dive sites. The Name comes from the temple Pura Ped, which is built right on the beach, in front of this dive site.

The reef starts sloping down gently from the shallows to about 18 meters, and after that it starts to slope down quite steeply deeper. The water temperature is usually 27-29⁰C, which is warmer than many other dive sites around Nusa Penida. Almost all the dives on Ped are drift dives. Sometimes you can experience upwellings that can drop the water temperature slightly, and sometimes down currents can be experienced during the dive. This means that attention must be paid while diving this dive site as well.

Corals are healthy and colorful, and the dive site is famous for the great amount of sea turtles, which can be spotted here. Remember to also keep your eyes open for occasional BIG stuff that often can be seen passing by along the reef.

Crystal Bay

Crystal clear water and a great chance to spot the oceanic sunfish between June – October, makes Crystal bay one of the most famous dive sites in Bali. Although it is mostly known for the massive Mola Mola’s which can reach up to 3 meters in height, the fauna and flora in Crystal Bay is incredible and it is absolutely an interesting dive site any time of the year.

Crystal Bay is exposed to very strong and unpredictable currents from the channel between Penida and Ceningan islands, which can occur suddenly, especially around the drop off close to the channel. The water temperature can drop down rapidly to even 15-16⁰C during the Mola Mola season. Make sure you have the right exposure suit and do not forget your hood! Because of the rare conditions that can crop up, we only take experienced divers to this dive site. It is also important that very diver follows the guides briefing and rules to safely execute an enjoyable dive in Crystal Bay.
