Galungan and Kuningan in Bali: What Visitors Should Know
June 16, 2026
Tomorrow, 17th June 2026, Bali celebrates Galungan and Kuningan, one of the island’s most important religious festivals. Ten days later, the celebrations conclude with Kuningan.
Galungan marks the victory of good over evil and is a special time when Balinese families gather to pray, visit temples, and spend time together. During this period, visitors will notice the beautiful bamboo decorations called penjor lining roads and village streets throughout Bali.
For our guests at Bali Dive Resort and Spa and Bali Dive Resort Amed, Galungan and Kuningan offer a wonderful opportunity to experience Bali’s unique culture and traditions.
How does this affect diving and travel?
To allow our Balinese team members time to participate in family ceremonies, our diving activities will start slightly later than usual during the main celebration days. Morning diving schedules will begin a bit later than usual.
Guests should also expect heavier traffic than normal, particularly around villages, temples, and major roads as families travel to attend ceremonies. Transfer times may be longer than usual, especially during peak ceremony hours.
We recommend allowing extra travel time when planning activities and transfers during this period.
A special time to experience Bali
While the celebrations may slightly affect travel times, Galungan and Kuningan are among the most beautiful periods to visit Bali. The island becomes decorated with thousands of colorful penjor, and traditional ceremonies can be seen throughout local communities.
Whether you are exploring Bali, travelling between destinations, or heading to a dive site, you will have the opportunity to witness authentic Balinese culture and traditions that have been preserved for generations.
We are proud to support our team by allowing staff members time to celebrate with their families and participate in these important cultural traditions. As a result, guests may also experience slightly slower response times to emails and messages during the celebration period. We kindly ask for your understanding and patience, and we will do our very best to assist you as quickly as possible.
Questions about your stay?
If you have any questions regarding your stay, transportation, diving schedules, or how the Galungan and Kuningan celebrations may affect your travel plans, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team. We will be happy to assist you and ensure you have the best possible experience during your visit to Bali.
From all of us at Bali Dive Resort and Spa and Bali Dive Resort Amed, we wish you a wonderful Galungan and Kuningan and hope you enjoy this special time on the Island of the Gods.
